The SM110-52 EDF system is the latest in high tech EDF design. A result of years of research and development, including a considerable amount of 3D computational fluid dynamic analysis, it is the most efficient EDF unit in mainstream production today. It incorporates many features which set it above the competition. It is designed to fly models up to and even above 9kg.(depending on the type of aircraft, of course, those with larger wings could be heavier). The motor, a Neumotors 1915-1Y (other winds available on request) is housed within a precision pressure diecast cast and machined aluminium centrebody with integral inlet guide vanes which ensures maximum cooling efficiency unmatched by any other EDF unit available. As the motor faces aft, its wires project forward through the streamlined carbon fibre nosecone and out an opening in the top of the shroud, allowing for shorter wire lengths to the speed controller, thus reducing losses and electromagnetic interference. The 12 bladed, carbon fibre reinforced rotor and spinner are dynamically balanced to ensure minimal vibration and maximum efficiency. An added benefit of the 12 bladed rotor is the realistic jet-like sound it creates. The unit makes very little noise, so that the main sounds heard are the whooshing of the inlets and exhaust, which is quite unlike the whine normally associated with electric ducted fans. Specifications: Fan nominal diameter 110mm Fan Swept Area 7380 sq.mm Mass 740gm. Motor Neumotors 1915-1Y
Suggested Battery 10S - 12S Lipo 10S gives approx 2.8kW, 11S 3.2-3.4kW, 12S 4-4.2kW.
The performance graph below shows the performance using 12S Neuenergy 4900 mAh lipos at various throttle settings. The red line shows the exhaust velocity achieved at the corresponding thrust value. It shows that the SM110-52 has quite substantial efflux velocity, which is usefull in generating dynamic thrust at speed. Using an exhaust diameter between 87mm and 90mm will increase the efflux velocity even further, allowing for increased in flight performance. The SM110-52 was designed to be fitted to aircraft in the size range of the older 91IC ducted fan era, and have enough low end thrust to enable good flying of grass fields, and scale speeds, as well as have a scale-like sound. Any aircraft which flew with a Ramtec, Dynamax or similar fan system will fly even better with the SM110-52. As it is smaller than its predecessors, its requirement for intake and exhaust size is substantially reduced. Now it is possible to fit true scale size intake and exhausts to models for extra scale realism, without sacrificing performance.
